Dear Walnut Acres Neighbor,
Many of you were contacted by a member of WANA who provided a plethora of wrong information about WANA and about the claim process. This member does not speak for WANA. Because of the extent of the wrong information, and given that we do not know how widely this misinformation was distributed, we would like to take the opportunity to provide correct information here.
In the future, please do not credit information received by WANA members or Walnut Acres neighbors who purport to give advice about WANA or the claims process. That advice may not be correct. Please seek correct information on this website or by contacting the WANA Board of Directors. We are sorry if you have been misled by any of this information.
If you would like to join WANA, please go to WANA’s website at www.wanaca.org, where you will find an on-line membership form. WANA is a voluntary organization that does not collect membership dues, however the organization appreciates donations from its members in order to fund its important work in protecting and preserving the neighborhood. The website contains information on how to make a voluntary donation.
If you choose to join WANA, your contact information will be added to our membership list and you will receive notifications via e-mail of WANA events and news. Alternatively, if you do not wish to join WANA, you may still receive information about WANA events and news by periodically checking the WANA website.
If you are already a member of WANA (which looks to be the case for many of you), you do not need to do anything UNLESS your e-mail or other contact information has changed. If you have changed your e-mail address over the years and not notified WANA (as evidenced by a failure to receive WANA e-mails – we have many e-mail addresses that went bad over the years), then please go to the WANA websitse and fill out a new membership form giving us your updated contact information. Your membership will relate back to when you first joined WANA – this is merely a vehicle for giving us the updated information.
The evaluation of claims and distribution of funds from the Eldercare Litigation Settlement is being handled by the Funds Administrator, Gary Goodstein. Communication regarding the funds distribution should not be directed to the WANA Board of Directors. All addresses within the Walnut Acres boundaries will receive notification via USPS from Mr. Goodstein regarding filing a claim on the settlement funds. You do not need to be a member of WANA to receive that notification or file a claim. The claim form and instructions for filing the claim will be posted on the WANA website and e-mailed to WANA members for whom we have an e-mail address. In order to make efficient use of Mr. Goodstein’s time and preserve the settlement funds for distribution, Mr. Goodstein is generally not engaging in individualized communication with neighbors but instead will periodically send e-mails to those on the WANA e-mail list. He will also post communications on the WANA website for the convenience of those who are not WANA members.
We are in the process of scheduling a WANA meeting that will include election of directors. In order to participate in this meeting and election, I strongly urge you to join WANA as soon as possible.
Thank you for your time and attention to this e-mail.
Best,
WANA Board of Directors
